About Shanghai
Location: The city of Shanghai is located on the western coast of the Pacific Ocean and at the central section of the north-south coastline of China.
Area: 6,340 square kilometers

Rivers: There are two main rivers in Shanghai, Huangpu River and Wusong River, both rising in the Taihu Lake of Jiangsu Province. Huangpu River, which is 113.5 km long with water depth from 6 to 9 meters, can accommodate ships of over 20,000 ton-class, while Wusong River, also known as Suzhou River, which is 125 km long and 2 meters deep, is an important water transport artery linking Shanghai with the interior parts of China.
Climate: Shanghai belongs to the North Asia hot monsoon climate, with four distinctive seasons. The city has sufficient sunshine and rainfall. An average annual temperature of 15.7 degree celcius and precipitation of 1,123.7 cm.

Languages: Mandarin (Putonghua)/ Shanghaihua
Ethnic Groups: The permanent residents of Shanghai come from China's 44 ethnic groups. The Han nationality accounts for 99.53% of the total. The most of them are from Hui, Man, Zhuang, and Mongolian nationalities.
