Tourism at the Wadden Sea in Northern Germany
Today the tourism industry is the most important industry in the area of the Wadden Sea and the neighboring regions. Because of its healthy climate and its recreational appeal, Nordfriesland, the area shown in the map, is a very popular destination for families and seniors. Altogether the 165,000 inhabitants of the area provide more than 250,000 guest beds. Additionally, there is a huge number of day-trip tourists. Approximately 80,000 people are directly employed in the field of tourism.
