All
of the analyses that I performed was done in hopes of coming up with the
best place to have a fish habitat on Vancouver Island. The map below
will show the various steps I took to get the best results for my question.
With each of the maps below, I will describe why I produced this map to
get my end result.
This was the first map that I did which
was used the various landuses and found which ones would be best suited
for a fish habitat. As you can see, it is basically the whole island.
This map shows the major rivers in green and the powerlines are seen in the multicolours. As you can see the powerlines run under the ocean and there are many major rivers seen on this map. This was used in the MCE at the end.
This is the map that is used for determining the river
distances from the fish habitats. The closer the area is to the river,
the better site it would be.
This is the river buffer that is within the distance that
I want by buffer to be in. I want the areas that are inside the green
area.
This shows the 13,000m that is within the five watersheds
found on Vancouver Island
VI BOOL - This is the final map of my project which shows
the 613 km2 of land that could be used as fish
habitats. This is not the area that I assumed in to be on.
The map below will show the area that I thought the outcome would have
been on.
The place that I assumed that the fish habitat would be
on was on the islands of Quadra and Cortes which are found on the north
west side of Vancouver Island. I would assume that the fish
habitat would have been on land that was Crown. Therefore, small
parts of the islands are not private owned which could be used for the
fish habitat site. The reason I believe this is because the inner
parts of the island are protected from the harsh winters and the islands
have a variety of landuses that would not harm the fish. They are
away from the powerlines and roads that may allow them to be harmed.
Therefore, these islands are safest place on Vancouver Island to have fish
habitats.
