INTRODUCTION

Scouts Canada  is an organization providing education programs and outdoor activities for people  who are interested joining  scouting.  There are five different sections and they are Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers.  They are divided according to the ages.

Venturers is a section for young men and women who are in 14 - 17 year of ages.  The Venturer program emphasizes having fun while encouraging teens to feel good about themselves, their friends and family, God, and the environment. Venturers helps teens advance their leadership skills and gain self confidence.  The Venturer program is built around a lively variety of activities based on personal and group interests.   The outdoors is an essential part of the program. Weekend events, extended hikes, no trace camping and seasonal sports opportunities round out the Venturer experience.

Currently, I am the advisor of Venturers section.  My Venturers are working on their Queen's Venturer Award.  To be eligible for the award, they must complete eight requirements.  One  of the requirements is to complete the Exploration Award.  

The Exploration Award consists of four sections:

1. Discovery

-         Visit a place at least eighty kilometers away from headquarters, involving an  overnight stay

2. Challenge

-         Plan, organize and participate in an overnight hiking

-         Use lightweight equipment

3. Skills and Knowledge

-         Plan, cook a camp meal

-         Learn new survival skills

4. Conservation

          -         Investigate and make a presentation on conservation or ecology

My youth decided to have their trip on 2002 spring at Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island is our designated location for this trip.  It is located on the west of BC.  The most attracted as it has hundreds of campsites and excellent hiking trail system.  In addition, the opportunities of recreation and attraction are endless.  With their wildlife & nature tour, we can explore the area with more spectacular viewing.  Vancouver Island is absolutely the ideal destination for our adventure.

 

The goal of this project is to find out which campsites in Vancouver Island is suitable for my Venturers to fulfill all requirements for the Exploration Award.
