Data Acquisition

Data was obtained from the S:\ drive.  It was collected by the United Nations Environmental Program as part of a Global Resource Information Database.  The data included information on elevation, vegetation, temperature, precipitation and population.  Most of the data was in Idrisi Raster Format, with some polygons and lines I had to rasterize.

    • Information on wheat growth conditions were obtained through two Canadian web sites.  There are many types of wheat, each having characteristics that are appropriate for certain uses.  Growing conditions are the same for durum wheat, regardless of where it originated.
    • Conditions for growing wheat can also be found at the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association which is helpful in telling appropriate growing conditions for all types of wheat.
    • Additional information was also obtained through the Canadian Wheat Board, the marketing bureau for Canada.
    • General information to do with wheat  was found at the Kansas State University Wheat Page.
