4.1 Study Area
- The study area includes two map areas that have been designated by
Burnaby Mapping and Drafting staff. Keymap#1 and Keymap#2 are
combined which make up approximately one quarter of the Burnaby area.
The area is situated at the north western portion of Burnaby and is approximately
16,000 square meters.
4.2 Use GIS instead of Fire departments CAD system
- Using Arcview 3.1 made by the leading GIS vendor; Environmental Systems
Research Institute, along with two if its extensions, Network Analyst and
Spatial Analyst. The analysis capabilities of GIS will deem useful to generate
more information from existing information whereby CAD systems are fairly
limited in respects to the former. Consequently the new information
can provide means to support decision making, and in this case, the decision
to place Firehall #5 at its optimal location.
4.3 Required Data for Analysis
- Need the street-centre line network for the study area in shape file
format. Also require the associated attribute table with the length
of the street in meters.
- Need the point location of schools and for Firehall #5 in shape file
format. Also require the associated attribute table with a description
of the point location as well as the student population for school.
- Need the lot lines and shore line for the study area in shape file
format.
