8.0 Methods and Operation Problems

8.1 Methodological Problems

8.11 Analysis on Study Area did not consider Effects of Neibouring Features
- The Analysis Procedures implemented only considered the Study Area.  Features of Burnaby as well as in Vancouver that could have an affect in the study were not taken into consideration.  Some aspects to determine would be the proximity of other Firehalls to Burnaby North Secondary.  Yet another aspect to determine would be the proximity of Vancouver based Firehalls to Firehalls in Burnaby.

8.12 Considered Density of Student Population as basis for Analysis
- Among the broad range of socio-economic factors that could influence the optimal relocation of Firehall #5, I considered only one factor, that being the density of student population.  Perhaps if this factor was considered along with another factor, or if another factor was considered altogether, maybe different results would occur.

8.13 Schools were Subjectively Selected
- For the study, Education Institutions were selected based on whether they were Elementary or Secondary Schools.  Although the majority of the Education institutions are of these two types there are some that are Community schools that may constain a large amount of student population that may affect Analysis results.

8.2 Operational Problems

8.21 Difficulty in Editing Data
- Having obtained the Data on CD from the City of Burnaby's Mapping Division, I was not given notification about the attributes for the files.  They were apparently specified as read-only so when I attempted to Edit the themes, Arcview would not allow me to do so.  It was only after an entire evening that I realized this and changed the attributes of each file to archive.  Consequently, the files were available for editing.

8.22 Difficulty in Carrying out Procedures for Network Analyist
- Having decided to compute the Service Area and Service Network for various points, I had difficulty in selecting specific points for analysis.  When I selected the theme, all points were selected and consequently, all the points had undergone spatial analysis.  It was not until the end of the day that I realized you could preselect specific points, so that when the theme was selected, it would be these points that would have analysis procedures calculated for them.
