Workshop: Demystifying the Academic Hiring Process

September 14, 2017

Many graduate students in the Department of Geography have ambitions of becoming faculty members someday, but the way in which the academic hiring process happens often remains a bit of a mystery. The goal of this interactive workshop is to demystify this process. Drawing both on personal and professional experiences, the panelists will talk about all aspects of the academic hiring process. How do universities conceive and create positions? How do hiring committees adjudicate applications? Once hired, how does one start and keep an academic job?

Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions throughout in order to facilitate development of a workshop-type atmosphere.
