Greenest City Leadership Award recipient running for Vision Vancouver nomination

VANCOUVER, BC — Award-winning public education and youth advocate Aaron Leung announced today that he is seeking the Vision Vancouver nomination for the Vancouver School Board in the 2018 municipal election. Leung currently chairs the City of Vancouver’s largest Council advisory committee—Children, Youth, and Families—and at the age of 21, is the youngest candidate to announce a bid for the Vancouver School Board.

“I think it’s important to have a School Board that is reflective of those it aims to represent,” said Leung. “As a young person, I am in a unique position to speak to the challenges young people face today and how they can be properly addressed. It’s imperative that the VSB have trustees who understand the needs of students so that meaningful improvements can be made.”

Once elected, Leung’s top priorities will be to improve student access to mental health services, increase student and citizen engagement, and ensure all schools are modernized and seismically upgraded. Leung also hopes to share new ideas about how to use schools and school property to maximize student success and create more connected communities.
