ECCE App Challenge winners from SFU attend the 2018 ESRI User Conference

July 27, 2018

As winners of the 2018 Esri Canada App Challenge, the SFU mapit.space team consisting of Alysha van Duynhoven, Anthony Lee, and Chris Yee were awarded an expenses-paid trip to San Diego, California to attend this year’s Esri User Conference. With over 18,000 attendees, the Esri User Conference (UC) is the world’s largest GIS conference.

The team attended several plenary sessions, the Map Gallery Opening session, numerous technical sessions and demonstrations, Canada Night event, and much more. They learned about the work being conducted using Esri Technologies that spanned many industries and had a chance to meet Jack Dangermond at the Award Ceremony and other pioneers who help shape the GIS industry as we know it today. The SFU mapit.space team has also met with the Water3D team from the University of Waterloo and discussed the respective App Challenge experiences.

Alysha, Anthony and Chris are thankful for this amazing opportunity and to all those who made this possible -  Drs. Suzana Dragicevic and Shiv Balram, for managing the 2018 App Challenge teams for SFU ECCE, and the Esri Canada Higher Education team, especially Drs. Brent Hall and Michael Leahy.
