The SFU Esri Canada Centre of Excellence (SFU ECCE) in GIS celebrate the following Award Winners on their outstanding work during the 2021-2022 year:
SFU ECCE Student Associate of the Year Award
Kendra Munn (SFU Geography, MSc 2021) was awarded the 2021 SFU ECCE Student Associate of the Year Award. She contributed on multiple fronts as a graduate student member of the SFU ECCE, writing blogs, participating in the App Challenge competition, winning the SFU 2021 Esri Canada Scholarship Award, and winning the national Esri Canada Young Scholars competition. She completed her MSc degree in Fall 2021 and currently pursuing a career as an Urban GIS specialist at Esri Canada. Congratulations Kendra!
Esri Canada GIS Scholarship for SFU
Lan Qing Zhao (SFU Geography, BSc 2022) was awarded first place in the 2022 Esri Canada GIS Scholarship for SFU. Lan’s submitted work focused on the design and development of a GIS-based multicriteria method to assess rainfall-induced surface flood risk in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Lan completed his BSc degree in 2022 and will pursue graduate studies in Fall 2022. Congratulations Lan!
The SFU ECCE Student Associate of the Year Award recognizes continuous and significant contributions during the past years. The Esri Canada GIS Scholarship for SFU recognizes excellent achievement in GIS through the design and implementation of an original and individual project related to the advancement of methods and/or applications in the discipline. The award applications were evaluated by teams of reviewers associated with GIS at SFU and finalized by Esri Canada. The SFU Esri Canada Centre of Excellence (SFU ECCE) in GIS was established in 2014 in recognition of the long-standing quality of GIS research in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Environment and SFU. It represents an important network collaboration between industrial partner Esri Canada and SFU. The core members are the GIS faculty in the Geography Department with external collaborators drawn from across SFU. The SFU ECCE is currently managed by Dr. Shiv Balram. We are thankful for the resources provided by Esri Canada to celebrate the achievements of our GIS students.
