GIScience Students Become SFU’s First Team at National Geomatics Competition

January 19, 2026

Undergraduate students Mussaab Manzer (5th year GIS Major), Solange Saucier (5th year GES Major) and Jeffrey Collinson (4th year GES Major) will participate in the 2026 National Geomatics Competition (NGC) They will devote the study break time to travel to McMaster University in Hamilton to showcase their knowledge and skills in GIScience and geospatial technologies.

The NGC is a student-led competition in the field of geomatics engineering that brings together students, academia and industry professionally from across the country. First held at the University of New Brunswick in 2018, the competition continues to grow each year and attracts increasing participation from both university and industry partners. In addition to the competition itself, the NGC offers workshops, hands-on technical challenges, and numerous networking opportunities, along with social events designed to foster collaboration and connection among participants.

This year marks a milestone as SFU is being represented by a team in this national competition for the very first time. Their participation is made possible by generous financial support from the Faculty of Environment, Department of Geography, Geography Student Union and Simon Fraser Student Society. We extend best wishes and cheers to

Mussaab, Solange and Jeffrey! Go SFU Team Go!
