Bursaries, Scholarships, and Awards

  • Amrik S. Pooni and Family Bursary
    The Amrik S. Pooni and Family Bursary was established at Simon Fraser University in 2015 with a generous gift and a minimum three-year commitment from SFU alumnus Gary Pooni. The bursary is intended to offer financial assistance to an undergraduate student in financial need who has a declared major or honours in Geography.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Sommer Scholarship in Earth Sciences/Geography
    An annual scholarship granted in any term, in alternate between Geography and Earth Sciences students, on the basis of academic merit to a student majoring in Geography or Earth Sciences who has completed at least 90 undergraduate units including 12 upper division units in Geography or Earth Sciences. The award will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee.

  • Owen Hertzman Memorial Scholarship in Physical Geography
    The Owen Hertzman Memorial Scholarship, valued at a minimum of $1,000, will be granted to a student who fulfills the following criteria: is enrolled full-time and majoring in a Physical Geography stream in the Faculty of Environment; Is in their third or fourth year of study; and, is in excellent academic standing (minimum CGPA of 3.50). The scholarship will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee.

  • Port Metro Vancouver Undergraduate Scholarship in Geography
    To be awarded annually in two disbursements. The scholarship, based on academic merit, will be given in the Fall term to a Geography student entering the fourth year of studies. In order to receive the second disbursement, the student must maintain academic standards. The award will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
  • 2017 Esri Canada Higher Education Scholarship in GIS for SFU
    Esri Canada, privately held company, is deeply committed to supporting  Geographic Information Systems (GIS) education and research in Canada. It continues to recognize SFU as a select group of universities and colleges in Canada for its strong and multidisciplinary focus on GIS. Accordingly, the 2017 Esri Canada Higher Education Scholarship in GIS is the one-time award to one undergraduate or graduate student registered in advanced GIS studies at SFU. The award is merit-based and intended to facilitate sustained studies in GIS by providing: a one-time payment of CAN$ 2000, a perpetual license of Esri’s ArcGIS software for education and research use, a select set of Esri Press publications, registration to one of Esri Canada’s User Conference, and much more. Deadline for the award: March 1st, 2017.
