Health and Benefits Program
As a Graduate student at SFU, you are a member of the Graduate Student Society, which advocates on your behalf, and provides a number of valuable services to you. One of these services is the Graduate Student Benefits Plan, which provides eligible students with Health and Dental insurance coverage. The Plan was designed by students for students to provide many important services and cover expenses not covered by a basic health-care plan (i.e. the British Columbia Medical Services Plan - BC MSP), such as prescription drugs, dental care, travel health coverage, vision care, and more.
The Graduate Benefit Plan does not replace MSP or an equivalent plan (such as other provincial health-care plans or a private basic plan). It offers you extra coverage in addition to basic medical covered. You must have provincial health care or the equivalent in order to be eligible to use the extended health coverage provided through your student Plan.
Any student enrolled in a graduate program at SFU in September or January will be automatically enrolled in the Plan.
A complete description of benefits, as well as claim forms, enrolment forms, opt-out forms and more detailed information about the Plan are available at www.ihaveaplan.ca.
