LS 819: Public Art and the Public Sphere
Spring 2015 | Dr. Greg Snider
This course will look at the history and development of the critical concept of the public sphere, and how it can offer a useful framework for engaging forms of democratic communication and participation in the present. Local works and other selected examples of public art which make a valuable material contribution to this idea of initiating discourse will be presented, to demonstrate how issues of immediate common relevance can be directed in the public sphere. A walking tour will be arranged.
