Keeping Rosemary Brown’s Legacy Alive
Rosemary Brown worked tirelessly to address social justice issues in our society, and we are working to maintain her legacy. Many of you have already donated generously to a scholarship fund for the Rosemary Brown Undergraduate Award in Social Justice to encourage students of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies to become active and caring contributors to their broader community. We are now reaching out to you again to ask that you donate to a fund to sustain the annual Rosemary Brown Memorial Conference.
Rosemary Brown Memorial Conference Fund
Our annual conference was launched in 2014 as a means of bringing academics and students, service-providers, and the broader community together to speak on current issues of diversity, ongoing inequalities, and ways to create positive change. Our two previous conferences (“Inequality and Rights: A Feminist Perspective” and “Confronting Gender Violence”) drew capacity audiences, and we are expecting similar engagement with this year’s consultation on sexual assault on campus.
To ensure complete accessibility, we do not charge registration fees, and our presenters generously speak without charge. Nonetheless, the conference costs approximately $3,500.00 yearly for room and equipment rentals, catering, advertising, and so on. If we are going to maintain this important annual conversation, we must fundraise to cover ongoing expenses. Please consider donating to the conference’s sustaining fund by making a gift in honour of Rosemary Brown. Tax receipts will be issued by SFU Advancement.
