Canada geese are large brownish birds with black necks and heads with a white cheek patch. They inhabit lakes, bays, rivers, and marshes. often feeding in open grasslands and fields. They occur throughout North America. They are very abundant during spring and autumn migration periods when they may be seen flying in V-shaped flocks, honking distinctively and loudly. They are locally common along the coast and southern interior during the winter. A number of resident populations are known within the province. They graze on marsh vegetation and stubble left behind after the harvest of agricultural fields.
