The plant species originally referred
to as shewuq has not been identified with certainty, but it is said
to grow along road sides. The name shewuq is now also used to refer
to garden carrots (D. carota). The introduced wild ancestor of the cultivated
carrot, known as wild carrot or Queen Anne's lace, is found throughout
the southeastern part of Vancouver Island and the adjacent mainland.
