Well-being in Learning Environments Dialogue Series

Thriving Beyond Campuses: A Dialogue Series Connecting B.C. Post-Secondary Schools

SFU Health Promotion partnered with UBC Health Promotion & Education and BCcampus to host Thriving Beyond Campuses: Well-being in Learning Environments, a dialogue series that took place between November 2020 and February 2021. Over 200 faculty, educators, and staff attended the four-part virtual dialogue series to engage in inter-institutional conversations on topics related to well-being in learning environments in higher education.

Sessions included a keynote presentation and panel discussion on cognitive bandwidth featuring Cia Verschelden, roundtable sessions highlighting best practices on embedding wellbeing in teaching and learning, and a panel of change agents who shared their observations of systemic changes that support wellbeing in learning environments.

A summary of the themes from the dialogue series, participant feedback, and recommendations can be found here

Embodying Racial Justice Workshops

Was Hosted on Monday, November 15, 2021

This training supported faculty and instructional staff to participate in equity and inclusion work based on trauma-informed pedagogies, embodied nervous system practices, and paradigms of embodied social justice.

Racism and colonization are not limited to individual attitudes, biases and prejudices. They are structurally anchored in our institutions. The body is where we hold racialized trauma, both individually and collectively. Embodied practices are key to cultivating anti-racist and anti-oppressive environments and will support participants to work with dynamics of historical and contemporary intersectional oppression at a personal and professional level.

This training empowers participants with a trauma-informed approach to equity and inclusion as it applies to decolonizing the classroom space in your work as educators and scholars, as well as in the realm of embodied leadership within institutions.
