Vancouver Wellness Studio
The Vancouver Wellness Studio is an example of a space that supports the health and well-being of SFU campus members. Launched in the fall of 2015, the Wellness Studio is located on the second floor of SFU's Vancouver Campus - Harbour Centre building (Rm. 2530). It is an extension of SFU’s Vancouver Campus INgagement Programs, designed to enhance sense of community by creating more opportunities for students, staff and faculty to connect and interact.
The Wellness Studio is unique in that it promotes well-being through both its functionality and design. Features such as the lighting, flooring, ventilation as well as wall colour were all strategically chosen in order to optimize well-being. The space also includes a nature mural as the room is without windows. Views of nature can be restorative by creating a pleasant, calming and inviting atmosphere. The Vancouver Wellness Studio is the first space at SFU Vancouver designated specifically for community members to engage in Yoga, Zumba, Mindfulness Meditation and other activities related to physical, mental and social wellbeing.
SFU Health Promotion would like to recognize SFU Vancouver Administration, who initiated and led the redesign of the Wellness studio with an intentional consideration for student, staff and faculty health and well-being.
