
HEIS News: purpose, audience & visionPurpose: The goal of HEIS News, the ESL in Higher Education Interest Section Newsletter is to provide a forum for the exchange of views; research; and classroom methods, materials and practices related to English as a second or foreign language in all higher education settings. This forum includes both advocacy for and the examination of issues of professional concern to those working in these various higher education settings in the U.S. and abroad Audience:HEIS News is oriented to language teachers and administrators in a wide range of higher education settings--universities, community and junior colleges, professional institutes, etc. Each of these arenas includes members with varied expertise and experience dealing with student bodies of equal diversity in terms of membership, interest, and experience Vision: The ultimate vision for the newsletter is inclusiveness, given the breadth and depth of the constituents served. HEIS News attempts to achieve a balance in the following areas: 1. Articles, brief reports, and announcements which address the concerns of those working in the U.S. and those working abroad. 2. Coverage of issues of concern to the various constituent audiences based on educational setting, experience level, and area of expertise or interest 3. Both advocacy for and critical examination of issues. 4. Both practical articles directly applicable to classroom /program situations and discussion of larger issues surrounding working in higher education contexts
