Your Co-op student has "learning objectives" for their work term which link their academic program to the work you'll be giving them.  

Early on, meet with them to discuss her expectations and learning objectives. This helps them understand the connection between their new Co-op job and their academic program at SFU. Encourage them to reflect regularly on the new skills and insights they are absorbing as their work progresses.  You'll want to ensure they are realistic about the scope and nature of work coming their way.
