Undergraduate Students

  • Timo Schaefer: SFU Gold Medal and prize in History and Stephen McIntyre Book Prize ($500). Timo was the top graduating student in the History department in 2009, achieving a remarkable 4.09 GPA in his History courses. Timo is now working on his MA in Latin American History at UBC.
  • Ozren Jungic: nominated as SFU’s candidate for the BC Rhodes Scholarship. Although Ozren did not receive the award, it was a distinctive honour to have been nominated from amongst SFU’s brightest and best.

    History - $250).
  • Michael Farrelly: William L. Cleveland Essay Prize in African/Middle-Eastern/Asian History ($450).
  • Star Deibert-Turner: Margaret Ormsby Prize (Canadian History - $275).
  • Everett Messamore: European History Essay Prize ($230).

 

Graduate Students

  • Davide Turcato: a PhD student with the department of History has won the prestigious Governor General's Gold Medal. This is the highest award granted to a Canadian student for academic achievement and was awarded to Davide for his thesis "Making Sense of Anarchism: The Experiments with Revolution of Errico Malatesta, Italian Exile in London, 1889-1900."
  • Shadaab Rahemtulla: a recent MA in Middle East/Islamics from our department, has won both a SSHRC and an Oxford Overseas Research Scholarship.
