Tammy Theis, Coordinator, Communications and Events for the Department of History, graduated alongside more than a hundred History majors this June, having completed her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies!

Tammy joined the department in 2015 and has been working on secondment in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office this year.

For her final research project in Graduate Liberal Studies, she examined hip hop culture from an academic perspective and designed a course under the guidance of Dr. Gary McCarron, drawing upon her over 20 years experience as a hip hop artist and performer.

Her paper "Rap Music and the Politics of Popular Representation," earned the Michael Fellman Graduate Prize, which is given to a student in a Master of Arts degree program in the Department of History or the Graduate Liberal Studies program for the best essay or thesis.

Congratulations, Tammy!
