Versions & Minimum Requirements
The new
version of the www.sfu.ca site
uses
Cascading Style Sheets to
help format and present the information
on the web pages. Due to CSS
use, this site will only look
how it was intended in browsers
that
can understand cascading style
sheets. With the introduction
of the two main browsers, Internet
Explorer
(version
3.0) and Netscape Navigator (Version
4.0)
style sheets started appearing,
however both of these browsers
in that
specific
version
translate style sheets very poorly.
Based on user
statistics, over 89% of computers
use either Internet Explorer
version 5 or version 6 as their
browser of choice. Both of these
browsers understand style sheets
completely. With the Netscape Family
of browsers, the style sheets will
be completely understood with version
7, but not understood completely
with
version 4.76 or earlier. However,
the page will be useable
even if the style sheets are not
understood. The page will just
look a little different than it
was designed.
JavaScript is
also used within the web pages
for effect with the photographic
images as well, to display the
random effect for the news headlines.
JavaScript by default is turned
on within
your
browser.
It is up to you to disable it.
JavaScript is not a plug-in, it
is built into your browser.
This web site
has been optimized for Internet
Explorer version 4.0 and higher
as well as Netscape version 7.0.
It is highly
recommended to download the current
version of your choice of browser
for the best experience:
