Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

The SFU Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides confidential, professional assistance to help you or your family members resolve problems that affect your personal and work lives.

The program can provide assistance with the kinds of problems that affect your family life, your work life or your general well-being. These may involve problems such as stress, anxiety and depression; marriage counselling; family conflicts; alcohol and drug dependency; grief and bereavement.

The University retains the services of an external program provider, Homewood Health, who are staffed with certified counsellors and registered psychologists. You can refer yourself by simply calling Homewood Health at the number below. Because you refer yourself, no one need know that you are seeking assistance, and the service is completely confidential. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and you have the choice of accessing sessions by telephone, face-to-face, or e-Counselling. The service is available to you and members of your immediate family.

While the EFAP is intended to provide short term counselling services, there is no pre-set maximum number of sessions per client and no limit to the number of types of problems for which you can access the services. The program is available to all full and part time continuing staff in APEX, APSA, CUPE, Poly Party, and SFUFA as well as staff in the English Language & Culture/Interpretation & Translation Program (ELC/ITP).
