Market Positioning

The salary structure is comprehensively reviewed against a reference group of approximately 30 large private and public sector organizations in the Lower Mainland and universities in western Canada normally every three years. In addition, throughout the year the University routinely conducts and participates in salary surveys within this reference group of employers and also subscribes to one large external consultant sponsored Canada wide salary survey each year.

On November 30, 1982, the Board of Governors approved a policy establishing the job rate (i.e., salary grade range maximum) for Administrative and Professional positions at the 60th percentile of rates paid for characteristically similar jobs in the reference group of organizations.

Through a thorough process of review commonly known as job evaluation which involves market reviews and/or internal job-to-job comparisons, salary grade range assignments are chosen for Administrative and Professional positions that are internally fair and consistent with the Board of Governors’ approved policy.
