The Total Compensation team has been listening to feedback from the SFU community and we have heard that people want to know more about Job Descriptions (JD), Job Evaluations and Total Rewards.  We are excited to announce SFU’s Total Compensation Learning Series coming in JAN 2022!  We have designed modules that will be delivered through a mix of in-person sessions and Canvas (online learning), incorporating recommendations made by APSA/ Excluded leaders and staff. Total Compensation Learning modules are designed to help leaders and employees learn the basics of writing a job description, updating an outdated Job Description to the new SFU template, and to give more information on the principles of the Hay Methodology used to evaluate Job Descriptions.

2022 TOTAL COMPENSATION LEARNING SERIES MODULES:

Intro Video: Total Compensation 101
This module is a 7-minute video describing SFU’s Total Compensation program.

From Old to New: Transposing Job Descriptions to the current SFU JD Template
It has been identified that over 500 Job Descriptions are still formatted on various older versions of a JD template and need to be updated. This quick Canvas module is designed to walk leaders and employees through the process of updating their Job Descriptions by using the new template found on the website

Job Descriptions 101 – APSA, Excluded & POLY
The new Total Compensation Learning Series module “Job Descriptions 101” in Canvas incorporates recommendations and feedback from APSA/Excluded leaders and staff and was designed to leverage and follow the principles of the Hay Methodology. This course will take leaders approximately 1.5 hours to complete and gives detailed instructions on how to complete each section of the current SFU Job Description template.

  • Job Description Content & Tools: Deep Dive
This course is still in its testing phase but will provide more detail on content for Job Descriptions, best practices, and supporting tools and resources.
  • Korn Ferry Hay Methodology
This module will cover everything an employee or leader would need to know about Job Evaluation.

We are so excited to share our passion for Total Compensation and to be able offer these modules to the SFU Community. As we go through our testing and pilot phases we will continue to ask for feedback and incorporate it into our Learning Series along with future modules about Benefits and Pensions.  We hope you will join us in the new year!
