Starting this fall, the introductory course in Latin (HUM 161) returns in a distance education format, thanks to support from the Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE). The course has been designed by David Mirhady, Chair of Humanities (the host department of the LTI) and will be open to 45 students. The distance course is based on Wheelock's Latin, the standard textbook for Latin instruction in North America. Some say, "the only good language is a dead language" (because they don't have to speak it), but Latin has been a key element in the history of learning and culture in the west.
