BSG Network of Gerontology Students (NOGS)
Th
e British Society of Gerontology student network provides a lively and interactive forum within which all students with an interest in ageing can meet, share information, talk through ideas, and generally find support and encouragement. This network is primarily for postgraduates of all ages and disciplines, working both full and part-time. Postdocs and undergraduates with an interest in gerontology are also most welcome to join.

The BSG student network developed at the 1998 British Society of Gerontology conference when a scheduled student lunch extended many hours beyond its expected conclusion. A small group of students at this conference wanted to remain in touch with each other, for enjoyment of othersĒ company and for support and encouragement through postgraduate life. These founding student members included Ann O'Hanlon, Bettina Becker, Demi Patsios, Elaine Argyle, and Mark Faulkner.

Over the intervening years, the student network has become bigger and more vibrant with regional groups meeting all over the UK and Ireland. The BSG student network offers students many benefits including; 1) a national email list giving students the opportunity to share information, to ask for help, and/or to network with other students,  2) a bulletin board for sharing information on a range of personal and professional issues, 3) a list of network members with their research interests enabling students to get in touch with each other, particularly those with similar research interests, 4)information about support days, conference, organizations and research centres around the UK and abroad so people can network with others in similar research areas, and 5) the opportunity for all members to get involved in this network and at the same time develop friendships with others working totally or partly in the field of ageing and gerontology.
