During
the first 5 weeks, here is your assignments and how you will be assessed:
Assignment
Specifics
1.
Class/Online Participation
You
are expected to participate by coming to class an getting involved in
class discussion as well as actively participating in the online discussion
using the webX chat.
2.
Review of Animation Piece
Please
review an animation short or movie of your choosing. Detail in min 1/2
page, max 1 full page it based on the following criteria:
- How
it relates to you (inspired you in what way, what part would you use
in your work).
- Discuss
the animation style used in the piece (why that style for that piece).
- How
does the piece relate in an historical sense to other work (animation,
film, art).
3.
Story Pitch
Your
team (or you individually) will be creating a computer animation short
by the end of this course. At week 4, your team needs to pitch your
idea to the class. You will do a short (3-5 minute) pitch to the class
discussing the story idea and for teams: the timeline, milestones and
roles. The goal here is to convey the idea to others. You will be assessed
by the following criteria:
-
Quality
of the story idea.
-
How
well you conveyed you idea to the class.
-
How
well your idea is fits the production time and team (doability).
4.
Your Web Log
During
the entire course you will be keep an ongoing web log of you ideas,
inspirations, sketches, narratives, color schemes, storyboards, animation
tests ... ( more on this in class).
At week 5, you will present your animation web log, to date, to the
instructor during class. Among other things, you need to have a short
produced piece based from your in-class 3ds modeling work in your web
log. That is you will take the model(s) you have made and create a narrative
artifact using 3ds MAX. Depending on your level this could be an image,
a group of images, a short animation, etc.; created with 3ds MAX that
tells a story or creates a narrative spark or inspiration to its viewer.
It should be a way of experimenting with qualities you want to achieve
in your final animated short -- a foreboding feeling, a surreal object,
whatever you want to begin to convey in your final piece. Web Logs (i.e.
a website on your personal site dedicated to this class) will be reviewed
in class 5 by the instructor.
