week 2 : simple modelling in Max

Workshop Activity

Modelling exercises using the Still Life Tutorial

Today, based on what you have seen in class on modelling techniques, you will continue on with specific parts of the Animated Still Life tutorial that you started last week, now concentrating on modelling.

Instructions

Last week you started the Animated Still Life tutorial through to "Animating the Camera" subsection. This week we will do the modelling exercises later in this same tutorial. We will only do those that have been checked off in red in the image below. . This image corresponds with the tutorial nav bar. Bring up from the Help menu in MAX, the Introductory Tutorials\Creating an Animated Still Life section of the online tutorial, and start with the Creating an Orange subsection. Make one small change: it starts by telling you to open still_life0.max open the corner.max instead -- this will give a corner floor/walls to create you models on. Do the rest of the exercises in red as stated in the tutorial. Remember to periodically save your work and definitely save you final work to you drive, you will use your models in other classes. Also make sure you have mapped the 3dsMax tutorial drive first (see below).

3ds MAX tutorials and resources.
We have put the tutorial CD-ROM on a student server for you to use. Whenever max calls for tutorial files, this is where you access them. You access the tutorial disk by mounting \\storage\3dsmax. Best to "map" this to your workstation, so MAX, or other apps, can see it correctly. To map a drive, in Explorer, go to "Tools", "map network drive". Then map \\storage\3dsmax to a drive letter like "Z".

Save you files to your ftp area!
