Power Outage Update - Sunday, August 30 - 4:45 PM

We are pleased that thanks to the hard work of BC Hydro and SFU facilities staff, power has been restored at SFU Burnaby campus.

The campus is still dealing with some technical issues related to our phones. The University has notified our external vendor who is working on fixing the situation.

UniverCity currently still does not have power.

SFU IT services staff are currently working on re-establishing all online applications.We expect systems to slowly return to normal operations.

The University will continue to provide updates and share information with the University community as we have it both on our website and on our social media channels.

Power Outage Update - Sunday, August 30 - 8 AM

During the Saturday, August 29 windstorm, SFU's Burnaby campus was significantly impacted and experienced power-outages like many other parts of Metro Vancouver.

As of Sunday morning, SFU Burnaby campus remains impacted by the power-outages caused by the storm. Many of the campus' buildings are currently relying on back-up generators. SFU facilities staff are on site. Safety and security staff are on campus to support the community and operations. SFU Facilities Services staff are also on campus maintaining generators and critical infrastructure. However, due to these outages some SFU phones are being impacted. If you need to reach campus security, please contact: 604.291.7429.

At this time the following buildings are closed due to lack of power:

The Bennett Library

The Lorne Davies Complex

There is limited food services available at the Residence dining hall. Other areas impacted include SFU Burnaby parking lots and roadways which may have debris from the storm. Certain areas of campus may also be dimly lit.

While the SFU Surrey and Vancouver campuses remain in operation as scheduled, please be aware that non-core University operations remain suspended. IT Services is continuing to work to maintain essential online resources such as email and the SFU website, however many online applications remain affected.
