Who are we?
Information Children is a non-profit organization in existence since 1979. We provide information, support and referrals to parents and anyone involved in the care of children.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to help parents by providing them with whatever information and support they need in raising their children. We answer all requests for information concerning parenting and children, and if we do not have a ready answer, we do research to try to find one. We provide information and support not only to parents but to anyone involved with children. We also make referrals and link families with other community resources. |

What services do we offer?
Parent Helpline and E-Support
Help is just a phone call or email away for parents or anyone with child-rearing concerns. We offer information, support and referrals. Calls and emails usually are followed up with written material.
Parenting Workshops
We provide free parenting workshops in Burnaby and New Westminster. These workshops generally run for six weeks, once a week for two hours. The workshop sessions offer parents a chance to meet others in their community, to share concerns about children and family life, and to learn more about children and how to cope with them. At these workshops we discuss important parenting topics, show relevant videos, and distribute pamphlets and other written resources on a variety of child- rearing issues. Child-minding also is available.
In addition to our six-week parenting series, we make presentations to community groups on a variety of topics related to parenting. Also, on request, we conduct fee-for-service workshops, tailoring these to meet the needs of your group.
Parenting Pamphlets
We offer a series of pamphlets related to the care and development of children. These pamphlets cover a variety of topics such as guidance and discipline, sleep, communication, tantrums and parent emotions, to name a few. Currently, pamphlets are available to parents at no cost. For agencies and organizations, a small fee is charged.
More about us …
Does Information Children cover all ages?
Yes, but our primary focus is birth through age twelve. However, we do provide information and referral services for teen issues as needed.
Who operates Information Children?
Qualified professionals who are parents themselves operate Information Children under the supervision of a Board of Directors. All staff members are trained in child and/or family development at the undergraduate or graduate level.
When is Information Children open and where is it?
Generally, our hours of operation are weekdays from 10 a.m. – 2:00 pm. We are located in the East Academic Annex, room 2019, at Simon Fraser University. We welcome pre-arranged visits, as well as phone calls and emails. Books and other materials are on display at our office and may be read onsite. If you would like to come for a visit, please contact us before hand. Also, staff members may not always be available when you call. We encourage you to leave your name and number on our answering machine, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. No question or concern is too big or small, so please leave us a message!
