Liberal & Business Studies Program
Welcome to the program in Liberal and Business Studies.
This section is designed to provide you with answers to many of the questions you may have about the program in Liberal and Business Studies, whether you're returning to university after many years, or are considering attending university for the first time.
Overview
The program in Liberal and Business Studies (LBS) offered by Simon Fraser University is a multidisciplinary part-time degree completion program leading to a Bachelor of General Studies degree. It differs significantly from a typical undergraduate program; designed specifically for mid-career adults who wish to earn an undergraduate degree in a respectful and intellectually challenging environment, the curriculum integrates the broad perspectives of a liberal arts education with valued skills in business administration.
In addition, we understand that not all learning takes place in a classroom. You have worked hard to get where you are at today, and along the way you have experienced many different learning opportunities. We know that as an adult student you have had various work, community, organizational and personal learning experiences as well as college and/or technical school courses. These experiences translate into real lessons learned. The flexible admissions policy of the Liberal and Business Studies program will help you get the most from those previous learning experiences.
Program Objectives
- To provide an opportunity to adults to complete their undergraduate degree in three years, part-time, while working full time.
- To create a supportive learning environment where experiences and knowledge are shared through face to face classroom learning.
