iiDevLab (2018)

Description

In June 2018, Simon Fraser University (SFU), the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC) and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) held a 1.5-day Symposium and iiDevLab. Led by SFU International, academics, entrepreneurs, NGOs, funders, social innovators and technology experts were brought together to incubate ideas to address issues of local and global concerns and fuel further innovation in support of partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17).

The 1.5-day event was attended by 130+ participants and comprised of panel presentations and discussions on the following four themes:

  • Collaborations & Partnerships Across Sectors
  • Engaging the Private Sector
  • Big Data & Information Technology
  • Project Delivery

The Symposium and iiDevLab included team formations and collaborations for cultivating innovative ideas and developing project proposals. The teams and project ideas that emerged on Day One were then pitched to a panel of international development practitioners, technology experts and social innovators. The Clean Energy Research Group (CERG) emerged from the event.
