International Opportunities

The School for International Studies has compiled several online guides to assist students looking for internships, study and work abroad, and project opportunities that have an international dimension and are relevant to the IS program themes and requirements. Most of the opportunities listed take place abroad, but some of the organizations in our databases provide relevant international experience within Canada or right here in Vancouver. Many of the listings will also be useful for future studies, or for employment or volunteer placements after the completion of your studies.

This database is divided into the following three sections (each with its own tab in the spreadsheet):

  • Paid internships and Coop. Organizations that offer jobs and internships where you can get paid.
  • Academic Funding. External sources of financing for studies, action projects or research.
  • Useful Sites and Search Engines. Links to various websites that are of interest where you may be able to create your own opportunities for an internship or volunteering. There is also various links to online search engines specific to volunteering, funding, internships etc.

Please click here to access the database.

The guide lists a general website for each organization, plus a direct link to the relevant opportunities page, if available. The database also has a comment field that sums up the main features of the application and placement (eligibility, deadlines, amounts paid, etc.), to make your information search more efficient.

The listings in this guide are tailored for IS students and the international studies program’s themes and requirements. They complement, but also overlap to some extent, the opportunities posted by other units at SFU – for example, the resources page for SFU International.
