Over the last few weeks, we have been closely following the rapidly changing situation with COVID-19, guided by SFU policies, which are following advice and measures recommended by the BC Ministry of Health. For more information about COVID-19 please visit SFU’s FAQs online.

The Venture Connection family is close knit, and we remain concerned for them, their extended families and the community at large. To do our part to reduce person-to-person interactions to protect those who are vulnerable to the virus, you can expect the following from Venture Connection in the coming weeks:

  • Programs & Meetings Will be Virtual
Venture Connection’s mentoring programs (e.g. Mentor Meet and client mentoring with MIRs) will continue as scheduled but will be delivered online. This includes all upcoming group meetings, including incubator and eCoop intake and review panels. Applicants and clients will be contacted individually with further details.

  • Venture Prize 2020 will continue Online; awards ceremony postponed
The Venture Connection team is hard at work developing alternatives to the in-person pitches and mentoring/pitch prep for Idea and Venture Prize finalists. Early-stage entrepreneurship at SFU will continue to be celebrated on the scheduled timeline, with the Top 3 finalists announced April 8 (Idea Prize) and all winners announced April 16 (Venture Prize) as originally planned.

  • Coworking Spaces Closed
We have made the difficult decision to close all Venture Connection co-working spaces effective immediately. This includes the offices in SP290 and SP295. The offices will be accessible until Monday, March 23, 4:00pm PDT. All client and mentor swipe card access will be suspended effective March 24 until further notice. This decision was not taken lightly and we recognize it may cause some disturbance. If you would like support on how to set up to work remotely we are happy to advise. We believe it is the only responsible step to ensure the ongoing health and safety of our community that we deeply care about.
