Chelsea is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University. She is interested in bioarchaeology, museum collection ethics and repatriation of ancestral human remains.

Chelsea’s M.A. research centered on an interdisciplinary project to document the return of a collection of human remains from the University of Windsor for reburial with Walpole Island First Nation. She worked closely with community elders and leaders, as well as with University administrators, to see the return of these remains carried out, and to provide a contextual report to the Council on Walpole Island to establish a protocol for discussions involving repatriation and return of collections in the future. In her doctoral research, Chelsea will continue to investigate the significant impact that returning ancestral remains has upon those communities involved. Her senior supervisor is Dr. George Nicholas.

Chelsea has a Master’s Degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree in Anthropology from the University of Windsor.
