IPinCH was invited to submit a paper on IP Issues in Heritage Management for the Resources section of the Fall 2009 issue of Heritage Management.
IPinCH team members George Nicholas, Catherine Bell, Kelly Bannister, Sven Ouzman and Jane Anderson contributed 'Intellectual Property Issues in Heritage Management - Part 1: Challenges and Opportunities Relating to Appropriation, Information Access, Bioarchaeology and Cultural Tourism'.
The article oultines new challenges in heritage management, discusses the concept of Intellectual Property, and identifies approaches to Intellectual Property issues in cultural heritage, while providing a wealth of resources on these topics.
It then provides illustrative bibliographies on (1) Intellectual Property in general, as it relates to Indigenous peoples and descendant communities; (2) Indigenous peoples, Traditional Knowledge and Intellectual Property; (3) appropriation and commodification and Intellectual Property; (4) access, control and dissemination of heritage information; (5) Intellectual Property issues in bioarchaeology and genetics; and (6) Intellectual Property and related issues in cultural tourism.
A second IPinCH contribution to the resources section was published in Spring 2010.
