The IRMACS Centre is preparing for the new school year. As part of our preparation and to accommodate new research initiatives we will be making some changes in the current lab allocations of some of the IRMACS research groups. We thank you all for your patience and collaboration during this period.

On July 31, the IRMACS Centre wished farewell to the participants of the 2015 SFU Academic Camp for Aboriginal Students. The camp was a huge success! In the words of Andrew Petter, President and Vice-Chancellor, "This important initiative so wonderfully exemplifies both SFU's commitment 
to Aboriginal Peoples and the value of us being an "engaged university."" The camp's website is accessible here.

Dr. Ash Parameswaran, a professor in the School of Engineering and a former IRMACS Centre project leader, has recently been inducted as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers. Congratulations, Ash!

A team led by Dr. Felix Breden, the Executive Director of the IRMACS Centre has been invited to submit a full proposal under Challenge 1 of the 1st competition of the CFI Cyberinfrastructure Initiative. The proposal will present a new phase of the very successful IRMACS' hosted iReceptor project. Congratulations, Felix!

Between July 2-July 31, the IRMACS Centre will host the 2015 SFU Academic Summer Camp for Aboriginal High School Students. The main goal of the camp is to help Aboriginal students currently in grades 9-11 to accelerate in Mathematics and English.  In addition, the camp participants will engage in various activities, including science, recreation, hands-on mathematics, and Aboriginal cultural workshops.

The recent awards ceremony at the 2015 STLHE conference featured a proud moment for the IRMACS Centre's deputy director Veselin Jungic, who was selected as one of 10 3M National Teaching Fellows for 2015.  Congratulations Veso!

Dr. Derek Bingham from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science and a long term IRMACS Project Leader was recently awarded the 2015 Dean of Graduate Studies Award for Excellence. Congratulations, Derek!

The IRMACS Centre is honoured to play a major role in organizing the Connections in Discrete Mathematics; A celebration of the work of Ron Graham Conference. This conference, scheduled between June 15-19 on Burnaby campus, is one of this year's major scientific meetings devoted to discrete mathematics.
