Course Availability Survey (Course Full Turnaway Report)

These reports provide a synopsis of the situation regarding undergraduate course supply and demand and are based on
data at the end of week 1 of classes.

Fall 2000 to Fall 2003 report conclusions are based on an analysis of Telereg transaction files.

With the introduction of SIMS in October 2004, SFU lost the ability to track student course demand
via telereg transactions. Consequently, SFU implemented an on-line Course Availability Survey
in Spring 2005 to collect information on courses students wanted to enroll in, but were unable to.

The Excel workbooks contain both Appendices from the report ("other" reasons why students could not enroll in desired course, and student comments), as well as two pivot tables:

  • The spreadsheet titled "Listing by Course" is a pivot table showing the maximum and actual enrollment by course and the number of students who are not able to register into the course by reason. Since this is a pivot table, you are able to choose which Faculty and Subject you wish to view.
  • The spreadsheet titled "CFT by Course" is a pivot table showing the number of students turned away from FULL courses. To view a profile of students turned away from a specific course, click on the CFT total and a new spreadsheet will appear with a profile of students turned away. Again, because this is a pivot table, you are able to choose which Faculty and Subject you wish to view.
