WHAT I LEARNED

I've learned so much about the design industry on this field school. Sharing knowledge with so many wise individuals was definitely inspiring, and something that I will never forget. if I had to narrow down the things I learned to one, I'd say that I learned about how to better use our time and opportunities that are thrown at us. Our interviews at Segis and Danese  were perfect examples of two wonderful people, Signor Franco and Signora Carlotta, who took the time out of their busy schedules just to converse with us. They didn't limited their time with us, but made sure that they could offer us the best experience imaginable. Grazie Mille!

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM?

YES!

FAVOURITE MOMENTS

  • This whole italia field school was a once in a lifetime experience and filled with many favourite moments.

  • Firenze at night was particularly memorable, whether it was stumbling upon a concert in Piazza della Signoria, or hearing renditions of Prince's "Purple Rain" on the Ponte Vecchio.

  • Another particular memorable day was the day of our interview with Franco Dominici. Despite the fact that they were hosting a potential client and our group being late for the interview, the lovely people at Segis waited until we arrived before treating us to an amazing lunch, tour, and interview.

FAVOURITE QUOTE(S)

  • "We have to redesign our minds, but all over Europe, not only in Italy. And to really to build up new networks, new ways, new... To have the courage to understand achievement and not be afraid and defend, but be open. To say: okay I [will] try to understand and I [will] give a new answer to this and I personally do believe that this is possible. Also [to] give passion [when designing]. In some ways it is always difficult but life is difficult." (Bevilacqua, C, Danese , 2006).

FAVOURITE BUILDING OR SPACE

My favourite space was definately Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria in Firenze. Particularly because the sculpture of Giambologna's "Rape of the Sabine Women" was my favourite sculpture that I saw in Italy. But the space was also my favourite place to sit, watch the world go by and beat the heat with my nocciola gelato from Vivoli.
