Your SFU Computing ID gives you access to SFU Connect for email and calendaring, the Student Information System, your payroll information, e-learning systems such as Canvas, campus labs, online Library services, and a variety of other systems.
How do I obtain an SFU Computing ID?
All SFU students, staff and faculty members will receive an SFU Computing ID. Please see below for more information on obtaining and acivating your SFU Computing ID. For more details, you may also see FAQs for SFU Computing IDs.
Your SFU Computing ID is automatically created for you when you appear in Payroll.
You will receive an email at your non-SFU email address indicating that your SFU computing ID is ready for online activation.
After you accept an offer of admission by paying your admission deposit, you will receive an email sent to your non-SFU email address indicating that your SFU computing ID is ready for online activation. All computing IDs, for a given term, are issued at the same time.
This email will be sent on the following schedule:
Students Beginning studies in:
September: Email sent mid-June
January: Email sent mid-October
May: Email sent mid-February
* If you confirm your offer of admission after the scheduled issue date, you will be sent an email within 5 days of paying your deposit.
If you are an SFU Alumnus, you have the option of signing up for the Alumni Email Forwarding Service
It is possible to obtain a computing ID for functional purposes, such as for general departmental email correspondence, or research being carried out on behalf of the University environment. The computing ID must be sponsored by a departmental signing authority on file in IT Services.
If the person using the sponsored computing ID leaves, the sponsor should reclaim it by changing its password. The sponsor has the right to revoke his/her sponsorship at any time.
