Network Services operates the telephone service on all three campuses. A large part of the service uses Voice Over IP, or VOIP, technology, which uses the Internet to carry telephone traffic.

Softphones, which are applications that run on your computer and provide VoIP service using a computer headset, are becoming increasingly popular. SFU faculty and staff can purchase an SFU-branded edition of the SofTel softphone client.
