The Kavanagh group is part of the Physics Department at Simon Fraser University. We are located in 4D Labs, TASC II, an interdisciplinary electronics materials laboratory. We have strong connections to the Chemistry Dept. and School of Engineering Science through collaborative projects and joint students.

Focussed He ion Beam

Our research is focused on the formation and characterization of atomic interfaces and nanostructures important to semiconductor materials and devices. We have expertise in a range of materials characterization techniques including: scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) including electron holography (EH), high resolution x-ray diffraction, Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and ballistic electron emission microscopy (BEEM), and He ion microscopy (HIM).
