Jennifer Whiteside is the secretary-business manager and chief spokesperson of the Hospital Employees’ Union, which represents more than 46,000 health care workers.

In this role, she is also the chief negotiator of the multi-union Facilities Bargaining Association.

A long-time activist, Jennifer has worked for several unions and community organizations on a broad range of health policy and labour relations issues, both in B.C. and in other parts of Canada.

A former HEU servicing representative and research analyst, Jennifer returned to HEU in 2015 after working with the Conseil provincial des affaires sociales, which represents 20,000 Québec union members in the health care and social services sectors.

As a union spokesperson, labour relations specialist, and health policy researcher, Jennifer is dedicated to improving the public health care system. She was a founding member of HEU’s Living Wage Campaign, and has fought tirelessly against privatization and for better working and caring conditions in seniors’ care.

Jennifer’s union and feminist activism is deeply rooted in her commitment to defending workers’ rights and championing social justice issues at all levels.
