LBST Minor

Admission Requirements

In order to declare the LBST minor, you must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 and you must have completed, or be registered in, the last of the lower division requirements as listed below.

Lower Division Requirements

Students complete 9 lower division units including

  • LBST 101 - Introducing Labour Studies (3)

and the remaining 6 units chosen from the following.

  • ECON 102 - The World Economy (3)
  • ECON 105 - Principles of Macroeconomics (4)
  • ECON 280 - Introduction to labour Economics (3)
  • GEOG 221 - Economic Geography (3)
  • GEOG 241 - Social Geography (3)

  • GSWS 201 - Colonizing Women: Canadian Women in Historical Perspective, 1600-1870s (3)

** Students may take more than one offering of LBST Special / Selected Topics courses for credit towards the minor, as long as the topics for each offering are different.

Upper Division Requirements

Students must complete a total of 15 upper division units, including:

  • LBST 301W

and 9 units in additional upper division LBST courses.

The remaining 3 units may be chosen from additional upper division LBST courses* or from the list of approved electives.

Completion Requirements

In order to complete the minor, you must have a Labour Studies CGPA and UD CGPA of 2.0 or higher. Your Labour Studies CGPAs include all courses used for your Labour Studies minor.

 

Recent Changes to the LBST Minor

As of May 2016, the requirements for the LBST minor have changed, including more options at the lower and upper division.

Students who declared prior to May 2016 will still be fulfilling the previous requirements which can be viewed on the checklist linked below. Please contact lbstadv@sfu.ca if you are unsure about what requirements you should be fulfilling.
