SFU-TSSU Labour Update: Grade Release FAQ for Students

November 02, 2015

1.     When can I expect to know my grades for this term (Fall 2015)?

Grades for the Fall term are held by the individual instructors and you can expect your grades to be released very soon.

2.     I’ve heard Summer term grades will be released. When will I be able to see my Summer 2015 grades?

TSSU members must compile the grades and submit them to the University. Your grades should begin appearing in your goSFU account in mid-November. Please refrain from requesting grades directly from your TA/TM, course instructor or professor, as the volume of inquiries will slow down the grade release process.

3.     I am currently enrolled in a course, and I just found out that I failed the pre-requisite in Summer 2015. What does this mean?

Students who now do not meet the pre-requisites due to a GN will not be dropped from the relevant Fall 2015 course(s). However, students may still be required to complete the pre-requisite in order to meet degree requirements. Students are advised to speak to their department. Students who are experiencing academic difficulty should meet with their academic advisor by December 8, 2015 to discuss their options. For appointment options, please visit: http://www.sfu.ca/students/academicadvising/contact_us.html

4.     I am repeating a course in the Fall 2015 term that I thought I had failed in Summer 2015, but it turns out I didn’t fail.  What should I do?

Students are advised to speak to their academic advisor by December 8, 2015 to review their options. For appointment options, please visit: http://www.sfu.ca/students/academicadvising/contact_us.html

5.     I was awarded a temporary Aegrotat grade (AE) to graduate, but now have not successfully completed the course. Will my degree be revoked?

In the event that you no longer successfully meet graduation requirements, Senate has approved that students will not have their degree revoked. A notation will be noted on your record regarding the exception made to award your degree. However, if you wish to re-enroll in courses to meet graduation requirements, (ie. you wish to improve your grade) then you can request to have your degree revoked. Please contact the Registrar’s Office at urecords@sfu.ca by the end of December 2015.

6.     My academic standing is now Required to Withdraw (RTW) based on my Summer term grades.

Students who are now Required to Withdraw based on their Summer Term grades but are enrolled in classes for Fall 2015 will not be withdrawn/dropped from their classes.  Students will have their academic standings changed to ‘Continued on Academic Probation’ but will be required to meet with a Student Services academic advisor to discuss their academic plans at SFU before December 8th 2015. Students can book an appointment by calling 778.782.6930.

Students who are Required to Withdraw after Summer, and are not enrolled in Fall 2015, will have their academic standing remain as Required to Withdraw.

7.     My academic standing is now Extended Withdrawal based on my Summer term grades.

Students who are now Extended Withdrawal based on their Summer Term grades but are enrolled in classes for Fall 2015 will not be withdrawn/dropped from their classes.  Students will have their academic standings changed to ‘Continued on Academic Probation’ but will be required to meet with a Student Services academic advisor to discuss their academic plans at SFU before December 8th 2015. Students can book an appointment by calling 778.782.6930.

Students who are now Extended Withdrawal, and are not enrolled in Fall 2015, will have their academic standing remain as Extended Withdrawal.
