SFU-TSSU Labour Update November 4, 2015
SFU’s and TSSU’s bargaining teams met yesterday to resume negotiations as the parties move closer to the conclusion of a collective agreement under the Final Offer Selection Process.
Yesterday, the parties reviewed their respective last positions on all outstanding language proposals and the TSSU tabled their monetary proposal package. Today, we will meet and identify the costs associated with the TSSU's proposals. The University will assist the Union in identifying cost items contained within their various monetary proposals that may fall within the current PSEC mandate.
The parties agreed to five meeting dates leading toward a Final Offer Selection session with independent mediator, Vince Ready.
The new SFU-TSSU Collective Agreement is required to meet strict and specific guidelines stipulated by the Public Sector Employers’ Council in their 2014 Economic Stability Mandate. This mandate applies to all public sector employers with unionized employees whose collective agreements expire on or after December 31, 2013. Similar provincial mandates have been in place since the early 1990's and all SFU agreements have since complied.
The University looks forward to these important discussions, and will continue to keep the community informed through ongoing updates.
